Building a Strong Volunteer Program Using Change Agent

📋 STEP BY STEP

Here’s how you can use Change Agent to build a strong volunteer program by developing effective strategies for recruiting, engaging, and retaining volunteers.

Step 1: Identify Your Goals and Target Audience

Conduct an in-depth analysis of your organization’s needs and the type of volunteers required. Determine the demographics and characteristics of your ideal volunteer pool and consolidate a description of them.

Step 2: Upload Your Volunteer Program Description to Change Agent

Change Agent will automatically analyze the text and identify key themes, values, and opportunities discussed in the description.

  • To upload the information as a file
    • Click the “+” symbol to the left of the prompt window
    • Choose your file
  •  To load the information from a webpage
    • Copy the entire URL (NOTE: if the URL is for a Google Doc or other cloud service, make sure that sharing is set to “Anybody with the link”)
    • Type “#” into the Change Agent prompt window and paste your URL immediately after the “#”
    • Click on the gray dialog window that says #[URL] to load the information

Step 3: Prompt Change Agent to Generate Recruiting Strategies

Generate your strategies by using a prompt, such as “Generate recruiting strategies for [ORGANIZATION NAME]'s volunteer program targeting [TARGET AUDIENCE].” Make sure to regenerate the answer at least five times.

Step 4: Review & Revise Engaging and Retaining Strategies

Choose the version that you like most and ask follow-up prompts such as “Rewrite the engaging strategies to focus on social media” or “Develop a retention plan emphasizing recognition and rewards.” Once you have a good draft or set of drafts ready, review it with your team to make any necessary revisions.

Step 5: Finalize, Implement, and Customize by Audience

Now your organization is ready to implement effective recruiting, engaging, and retaining strategies for its volunteer program. You can easily customize the strategies by audience with a prompt such as “These strategies will be implemented in [COMMUNITY/CITY]. Rewrite the strategies to emphasize [LOCAL ISSUES/PREFERENCES].”
